Vogue Magazine may not really be an object, but it’s certainly a product. It has been a significant player in the fashion industry since its inception in 1892, making it one of the oldest fashion magazines in the world. Over the years, it has evolved from a weekly publication catering to the elite in society to a global fashion powerhouse that influences fashion trends and styles across the world.

The film “The Devil Wears Prada” has admittedly been a personal favourite of recent. It follows a kind of “guess and tell” of what the inside of Vogue may look like, with its front editor Anna Wintour being played by Meryl Streep.

Meryl Streep plays Anna Wintour as a cold, fierce and cutthroat editor. Although, admittedly, after reading Vogue consistently for the past 3 months and taking in a Vogue collection I found at the charity shops comprising about 42 magazines, I have taken quite a liking to Anna Wintour.
The editing of Vogue magazine seems to be a similar approach to how I make my products. She begins the process with a large book of various ideas and concepts. She then tries to find a pattern in the ideas, what flows well together? What’s relevant to the brand? What am I trying to get across for this issue? It’s evident when reading Vogue magazine every page and article is specifically curated for that month’s issue.

It’s designed in a format that makes the content as easily digestible as possible. It leaves small queues comprising a general standpoint. My favourite part of reading the magazine is right at the beginning when Wintour leaves a personal note before showing you her work. Oftentimes the note will discuss her personal life, and mental state. To most, it may seem completely irrelevant, but to myself, I see how her personal note almost always reflects the motif of the magazine.

The layout of her design is so intriguing that I always go back. What are her thoughts for the month ahead? How is this related to the current state of the fashion world? Most importantly, how am I going to be influenced after reading this issue? An interpersonal look of one of the greatest minds in fashion design is what each edition of Vogue magazine gives you.
Great design is just as beautiful as it is influencing, and Vogue Magazine hits that point, nail on the head.
